Summer is the most popular time to move—and for good reason! The weather is nice, school’s out, and there’s more flexibility in everyone’s schedule. But moving with little ones? That’s a whole other adventure. Whether you’re upsizing, downsizing, or just relocating, here are 7 practical tips to help make your move smoother and (almost) meltdown-free.

1. Prep Your Kids Early: Talk to your kids about the move in age-appropriate ways. Make it fun! Show them photos of the new house or neighborhood parks to build excitement.

2. Pack a “First Night” Box: Include essentials like pajamas, toothbrushes, snacks, favorite toys, and even toilet paper. Keep it in your car or somewhere easy to grab.

3. Let Them Help Pack (a little): Give your kids some boxes and stickers and let them pack their own stuffed animals or books. It gives them a sense of ownership in the process.

4. Keep Routines as Normal as Possible: Even if everything’s upside down, try to stick to your usual nap or mealtime schedule when you can.

5. Schedule Movers or Rentals Early: Summer dates book up fast! Planning ahead reduces stress and gives you more options.

6. Use Screen Time Strategically: Moving day? That tablet is your best friend. Load it up with games and shows for some much-needed quiet time.

7. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help: Moving is a big deal—especially with kids. Whether it’s hiring pros or calling in grandma, aunts or friends, get support where you can.

Thinking of Moving This Summer? If you’re still deciding whether it’s time for a new space, I’d love to help talk it through—whether you’re a few weeks or a few years away.
